Indigenous cooperatives are a backbone of KOBUMI to strengthen indigenous livelihoods by connecting community-grown products to global markets. These are the profiles of the cooperatives

Fgan Fen Sisi Cooperative

South Sorong, Southwest Papua

The Fgan Fen Sisi Cooperative, which means “walking together,” was established on September 5, 2022, and is located in South Sorong Regency. It was officially sanctioned by the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia under Decree Number AHU 0004734.AH.01.29. Year 2022. The Fgan Fen Sisi Cooperative held its Annual Member Meeting (RAT) in 2024, which included a change in management. Subsequently, in 2025, with a new management formation, it obtained the latest decree number AHU – 0001875.AH.01.39.Year 2025. The Fgan Fen Sisi Cooperative is a community-based economic initiative that partners with fishermen in Konda and Wamargege villages to sustainably manage natural resources by purchasing mangrove shrimp commodities.

Raw material source

The raw materials, consisting of Banana shrimp or mangrove shrimp, are obtained directly from the fishermen in Konda and Wamargege villages. The fishermen acquire the shrimp using local wisdom practices, as the community believes that nature, which provides their livelihood, must be preserved.

Keik Boson Komwaris Cooperative

Sorong Regency, Southwest Papua

The Keik Boson Komwaris Cooperative (KBK), which means “a home for inheriting knowledge for the Moi indigenous people,” was established on August 15, 2022, in Sorong City. It was officially sanctioned by the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia under Decree Number AHU-0004323.AH.01.29 Year 2022. Throughout its management, the Keik Boson Komwaris Cooperative has held two Annual Member Meetings (RAT) with changes in management, in 2024 and 2025. The latest decree number is AHU – 0001783.AH.01.39 Year 2025.

The KBK Cooperative functions as an aggregator cooperative, collecting processed commodity resources from various areas in and around Sorong. These products are then processed and packaged in a shared kitchen to create value-added products. The KBK Cooperative also manages a gallery and lounge at the airport as a one-stop marketing effort for community products, aiming to empower indigenous people and foster economic independence.

Raw material source

Banana shrimp or mangrove shrimp are directly sourced by fishermen in Waimon village. The raw materials for derivative products come from the regions of Maybrat, South Sorong, Sorong Regency, and Raja Ampat. Local communities use traditional wisdom practices to obtain their marine catches and also employ agricultural systems that are in harmony with nature and sustainable.

Tomang Negeri Lengguru Cooperative

Kaimana Regency, West Papua

The Tomang Negeri Lengguru Cooperative (TNL) was formed in 2021 in Kaimana. It was officially sanctioned by the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia under Legal Entity Number AHU-00018.AH.02.03.YEAR 2021. The name Tomang Negeri Lengguru signifies a bag used by women to carry garden produce. True to its meaning, the TNL Cooperative aspires to become a place in the future for accommodating products from indigenous communities and helping to increase their economic income to achieve self-reliance for these communities.

The highest quality Papuan nutmeg is obtained from farmers in Arguni Bawah District, Kaimana Regency.

Banana are sourced from farmers in Tanggaromi village, Kaimana Regency. These farmers have traditionally practiced high-quality banana cultivation.

Yora Mekhande Cooperative

Abepura, Jayapura, Papua

The Yora Mekhande Jaya Cooperative is a producer cooperative based in Jayapura City. This cooperative officially began operations on December 27, 2022, and holds a notary deed, with its establishment officially sanctioned by the Decree of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number AHU-0006914.AH.01.29. Year 2022. The Yora Mekhande Jaya Cooperative was formed with the spirit of realizing the sovereignty of Papua’s indigenous communities in the just and sustainable management of natural resources.

Anugrah Alam Maluku Cooperative

Banda Islands, Maluku

The Anugrah Alam Maluku Cooperative (ANAM) leverages the potential of nutmeg in the Banda Islands while empowering local farmers. Product diversification is a key activity for the cooperative, aiming to add economic value to nutmeg flesh, which typically ends up as waste.

Rakyat Lestari Maluku Cooperative

East Seram, Maluku

The Rakyat Lestari Maluku Cooperative (KORA Maluku) was established on December 14, 2022. It’s a community-based economic institution working to develop the economy of the people in the Maluku Islands, managing and distributing local commodities based on principles of fairness and sustainability. This aims to foster economic independence for local communities.

Saloi Rempah Binaiya Cooperative

Tehoru, Maluku

The Koperasi Saloi Rempah Binaiya, or KSRB for short, was established on July 1, 2023. Its establishment was officially sanctioned by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia under decree number AHU.0002685.AH.01.29 Year 2023.

The KSRB is a local community economic institution dedicated to fostering economic independence for the people in Central Maluku, specifically along the southern coast of Seram Island (Tehoru and Telutih). It does this while upholding local wisdom and customs, accommodating community livelihoods, and distributing superior local commodities. The cooperative prioritizes principles of fairness, local wisdom, and sustainability for the common well-being.

Banda Naira Mandiri Cooperative

Banda Islands, Maluku

The Banda Naira Mandiri Cooperative was established in August 2023 and officially sanctioned by the Decree of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia under number AHU-0002687.AH.01.29. year 2023. This cooperative was formed to help develop potential commodities in Banda Naira, aiming to serve as an off-taker for farmers and fishermen in the area. The Banda Naira Mandiri Cooperative has been officially authorized.

Egek Malaumkarta Raya Cooperative

Sorong Regency, Southwest Papua

The Egek Cooperative was established on June 22, 2022, and has been officially sanctioned by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights under Decree Number AHU-0000301-AH.01.29 Year 2023. The Egek Cooperative is a joint initiative of indigenous communities from the villages of Malaumkarta, Suatolo, Suatut, Mibi, and Malagufuk.

The cooperative was founded with the aim of strengthening indigenous communities, preserving the environment, and creating sustainable economic opportunities for local residents. The concept of “egek” embodies rich local wisdom that focuses on sustainable environmental preservation. A core value embedded in the Egek Cooperative is the stewardship of intergenerational spaces, ensuring the sustainability of natural resources so they can be enjoyed by future generations.
