In 2024, KOBUMI reached a pivotal point in advancing the role of Indigenous Peoples and local communities as key actors in building sustainable, community-based economies across Eastern Indonesia. In partnership with the EcoNusa Foundation and a network of Indigenous and local cooperatives, KOBUMI has continued to strengthen inclusive and transparent supply chains—particularly in the plantation and marine sectors. Core commodities such as prawns, copra, nutmeg, and mace not only support local livelihoods but also reflect the deep connection between natural resources, culture, and sustainability.
This collaborative effort led to a 135.47% increase in sales compared to the previous year, expanding KOBUMI’s reach to 36 villages across 7 provinces and engaging 1,081 farmers and fishers as active partners. These milestones reflect a growing grassroots movement—one that champions economic justice, ecological balance, and communities’ sovereignty over their land and seas.
